Like many churches throughout the world, and throughout history, Community follows a list of Bible readings corresponding to the weeks and seasons of the church year. This "lectionary" follows a three year cycle which covers the major themes of the Bible. As Presbyterians, we follow the Revised Common Lectionary which is shared (with modifications) among many Protestant churches and the Roman Catholic.
Each week, the lectionary provides four passages of
scripture:
* an Old Testament reading
*
a Psalm - which is a response to the Old Testament reading
*
an Epistle reading
*
and a Gospel reading
These
readings may also be used for personal study and daily reading in
preparation for Sunday worship services.
